Frozen Mode in Three-Way Periodic Microstrip Coupled Waveguide

We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that a simple periodic fully planar three-way microstrip coupled waveguide exhibits stationary inflection point (SIP). The SIP is third-order exceptional of degeneracy where three eigenmodes the guiding system coalesce to form frozen mode with zero group velocity. Here, shown in reciprocal supporting modes each direction. illustrate occurrence regime by observing dispersion diagram coalescence parameter measure separation coalescing eigenvectors. Results based on full-wave simulations measurements how this not perfect due presence losses structure at 2 GHz. used determine close ideal condition.
